Botox®

For cosmetic procedures, Botox® works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for causing certain facial wrinkles and lines. The active ingredient in Botox is botulinum toxin type A, which is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When used in controlled and diluted amounts, botulinum toxin can have therapeutic effects, including its well-known cosmetic benefits.

For the treatment of headaches, Botox can be used as a preventive treatment for chronic migraines and certain types of tension headaches. The exact mechanism of how Botox works for headaches is not fully understood, but it's believed to involve its effects on nerve signals, muscle tension, and pain pathways.

For the treatment of excessive sweating, also known as hyperhydrosis, Botox works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for activating sweat glands. By inhibiting this signal, Botox prevents excessive sweating in the treated areas.

Another option available is Daxxify®, a newer neuromodulator designed for cosmetic use. Like Botox, it works by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. However, Daxxify is intended to last longer—typically around 4 to 6 months, depending on the individual. This extended duration may offer added convenience for those seeking fewer treatment sessions throughout the year.

How Does Botox Treat Wrinkles?

Many facial wrinkles and lines, such as frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead lines, and crow's feet, are caused by repeated muscle contractions over time.

When you make facial expressions, like frowning or squinting, the muscles contract and cause the skin to fold. Over the years, these repetitive movements lead to the formation of wrinkles and lines.

What Types of Toxins Do You Carry?

We carry Botox® and Daxxify®.

How Does Botox Smooth the Skin?

When the muscles relax, the overlying skin is no longer subject to the same degree of folding and creasing that occurs during facial expressions. This relaxation of the muscles leads to a smoother and more youthful appearance, as the wrinkles and lines become less visible or even disappear.

How Long Do Cosmetic Results Last?

The effects of Botox treatment typically become noticeable within a few days to a week after the injection. The full results may take up to two weeks to develop. The effects are temporary and usually last for about three to four months, after which muscle function gradually returns and wrinkles may reappear.

Daxxify is another option available for those seeking longer-lasting results. Like Botox, it works by relaxing facial muscles to smooth out wrinkles, but its effects can last between four to six months for many patients. This extended duration means fewer treatments may be needed each year, making it a convenient choice for those looking to maintain a more youthful appearance with less frequent visits.

Where is Botox Injected for the Treatment of Migraines?

Botox is injected into specific muscles in the head and neck region, including the forehead, temples, neck, and upper back. The injections are usually administered every 12 weeks.

How Long Does Botox Treat Excessive Sweating?

The effects of Botox for hyperhidrosis typically last around 6 to 14 months, but this can vary from person to person.
